• Normal Retirement Benefit = 70% at 25 Years of Service plus an additional 2.8% per additional year of service.

Signing Day

On Signing Day, you will be officially welcomed into the FCPD family and will meet with the Personnel Resources Division Commanders. During this meeting, you will receive your official starting salary and your Pre-Academy start date.

You will be measured for all uniforms, equipment, and gear.

Your direct deposit paperwork will be processed. You can expect to have your first paycheck direct deposited into your account at the completion of your second 2-week pay period.

Pre-Academy Experience & Onboarding

The Pre-Academy Experience includes Fairfax County Onboarding and consists of a 2-10 week training period leading up to the start of your Police Academy. The length of your Pre-Academy is based on your start date.

You can expect to generally work four, 10-hour shifts per week from 8:00 am – 6:00 pm, Monday – Thursday. These hours and days are subject to change depending on training needs.

Pre-Academy training blocks include classroom instruction, group fitness classes, ride-alongs with experienced officers, and Law Enforcement Experience Days.

Academy Starts

At the completion of your Pre-Academy Experience, you will begin your 26-week Basic Law Enforcement Academy at the Fairfax County Criminal Justice Academy.

You can expect to work five, 8-hour shifts per week from 7:00 am – 3:30 pm, Monday – Friday. There will be several blocks of training during the academy that will require you to work evening hours.
